Find New Utility Services

Make your new home feel like home by setting up your water and sewer, gas, electric, security, internet, and cable TV services. It’s never fun to walk into your new home and not be able to turn the lights on or take a warm shower. The utility companies might need a few days to set up your services, so it’s best to call them a week ahead of time to set up your services.

With some utilities, there is only one company Middlesex residents can go through. Other utilities, however, are available through several different companies. Consider asking your realtor, the previous homeowner, your landlord, or the homeowner’s association which company they recommend.

Sometimes, a technician must visit the home to take care of the set up of the utilities. It’s good practice to also have an electrician complete a walkthrough and energy audit of your home. They will be able to identify any faulty wiring or electrical hazards.

Before moving, make sure to close your accounts with your existing utility companies. Pay any overdue bills, and have a technician from each company complete a final reading of your gas, water, and electric meters. Keep the report for your personal records.

Prepare Your Pets

Moving can be hard on your pets and on you, which is why you should have a moving plan in place for your pets. That plan should include picking up your pet’s prescriptions and vet records from your veterinarian before moving day. Update the address on their ID tag with your new Middlesex County address soon after moving.

Some families choose to board their pets before, during, or after the move. If you plan on taking this approach, find a pet boarding facility near your home and book a spot well in advance. Soon after the move, you should find a veterinarian close by so you know where to take your pet in case of emergency.

We used White Glove for our move 2 weeks ago and everything went very smoothly. White Glove is very quick and responsive. Communication was easy from getting the initial quote all the way through the move. The team arrived about 15 minutes early the day of our move and everyone was professional, fast and thorough. They made sure all of our furniture was set up exactly how we wanted it. I would recommend White Glove to anyone looking for movers.
