Is the price estimate binding?

Moving companies typically charge per hour for local moves and by weight or cubic feet for long-distance moves. To get an accurate price estimate for your move, the movers need to take accurate inventory of your belongings. From there, they will give you a price estimate based on how long the move will take or how much you are moving. Be sure to carefully look over this price estimate to ensure there aren’t major discrepancies on the estimated moving time and price.

When a moving company gives you price estimate, you should ask whether that price is guaranteed to stay the same when it’s time to move. Some moving companies will give one price during the estimate to earn your business, then tell you a different price on moving day. If the price estimate is binding, your moving costs shouldn’t go up unless your moving plans change at the last minute.

Watch for Red Flags

Upfront case deposit – Reputable moving companies don’t ask for percentage of your move prior to moving. Non-company truck – When a mover shows up at your home to do a price estimate, they should arrive in a company moving truck. If they are in an unmarked vehicle or a moving truck from a different company, that could be an indication of an illegitimate business. Search for a different company to avoid a potential scam.

Ensure Movers are Licensed and Insured

Reputable moving companies have all the proper licenses and insurance to legally operate. If you are moving out of state, check that a potential moving company has a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) number. Both in-state and interstate moving companies also need to have a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) license number for legal operation.

My move was probably more difficult than most. I have lots of heavy musical gear and computers. And it was very well hidden in my original house. As I started pre-packing, I realized the amount was enormous. I could barely move many of the large boxes myself. In came a team of 4 medium-sized guys, but they were STRONG! I couldn't believe how they carefully lifted things effortlessly - and retaped my boxes to prevent them ripping. They FILLED their truck front to back and top to bottom with my stuff. And then they went the whole 8.5 hours with only a lunch break. They were unstoppable and never lost focus or got sloppy. I held off this review until I had unpacked everything and knew they didn't have any accidents I didn't know about. But now I can safely say they didn't have ANY breakage. I am now completely moved into my new home and am thankful that the A-team they sent made this such a stress-free experience.

I selected White Glove Moving to handle the fairly large move from a home I'd been in for decades to a new location two hours away in another state largely on the basis of these reviews and the apparent professionalism on view on their website... and then some phone conversations with Mike G. of the sales management team. For the largest part I was not disappointed. Mike was a great resource throughout... friendly, fair, knowledgeable and patient. Due to delays in my moving schedule, Gaby was out to the house twice to provide estimates and working with him was also a top-notch experience. When it came time for the actual move, the team led by Emad and Ezzat (special kudos to Ricardo as well) did amazing work. They handled all my special requests extremely well and went above and beyond in multiple cases to make things better, sometimes anticipating needs and improvement opportunities I'd never thought of. And as I told them myself, I have literally never seen such hard workers in my entire life... these folks worked their butts off. Simply amazing! As this was our first move using a moving company, we were very nervous. If you've heard horror stories about moving companies, this is NOT one of them. They were patient and professional during the entire process. In case your worrying about additional fees, the crew was fast and did not delay the process at all. If your questioning boxes and packaging materials in your estimate, STOP. They are the professionals. We thought we did a good job packing ourselves until we saw how much more packing materials were needed. Our furniture was wrapped carefully and delicately handled. Each and every piece. They carried my large up right piano with such care and accuracy. White glove arrived on time, finished my move early and delivered everything in perfect condition. They didn’t bump any walls and were amazing through tight spaces. I have a crumby desk I built myself with some cheap ikea components. It broke in transit (due to my construction being shoddy, not them). They fixed it when they saw the break and now it’s sturdier than it was before the move. Their pricing was fair and transparent. They quoted me 7 hours and took an hour off the price when we finished early. I have a few friends with similarly positive experiences too.

We were absolutely blown away by how amazing White Glove Moving and Storage was. We had a move within Jersey City a few years back by another moving company and it was a nightmare. From start to finish, White Glove Moving exceeded all expectations. The communication leading up to our move was clear, thorough, and professional.

We found WGM through Peloton, as they are certified to move their bikes and treadmills. Russo came to our apartment and did a walk through weeks prior to our move to give us a quote. This blew us away. How professional!

On the day of our move we had a fantastic team— Alfredo, Juan, Charley, and Milton—who were absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to ensure our move was smooth and stress-free. We were moving into a brand new townhome so we were concerned about damaging the walls. They protected everything from plastic on the floors/carpets to cardboard to protect the white walls (see photos).

The best move ever …. Former military so I moved every 2 to 3 years for over 20 years. This move was by far the best. Frank and his team (Patrick and Mikel) were fast and courteous. They treated my household goods as if it were theirs and made a point of protecting each and every item.
