Benefits of Living in Arizona
A cross-country move from New York to Arizona is a big decision. Prepare for a very different landscape, with 3,928 mountain peaks and four deserts. Be kind to the cacti; you may face 25 years in prison for cutting down an endangered cactus. If you are opposed to creepy crawlies, be warned: the desert is home to 13 species of rattlesnakes, more than any other state, and gila monsters, the only venomous lizards in the United States. On top of that, there are some seriously bizarre bugs, like giant hairy scorpions, Africanized bees, and desert tarantulas. However, anyone who lives in Arizona would tell you the slight risk of encountering one of these pests is totally worth it for the incredible views!

Marvel at The Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is Arizona’s most popular attraction and the reason for the state’s nickname. Bigger than the state of Rhode Island, the canyon encompasses 1,904 total square miles, measuring 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and a mile deep. The Colorado River is responsible for carving the Grand Canyon, beginning at least 6 million years ago. Visitors can choose their own adventure, with donkey rides, whitewater rafting, and rim to rim hiking trips offered by the park.
Arizona is Big and Populous
Arizona’s 7.17 million residents make it the sixth largest state in the country in terms of population. However, you will definitely be able to stretch out in your new state: Arizona is approximately 2.4 times larger than New York in size, but New York has an additional 13 million people living within its borders.
Arizona is Diverse
The Grand Canyon State’s population is extremely diverse. The state has the third highest number of Native Americans, with an estimate of 286,680 living in Arizona, more than 10% of the country’s total native population. Don’t worry about losing the cultural diversity of New York: a whopping 27.5% of Arizona citizens speak a language other than English, including Spanish, Navajo, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Arizona’s Cost of Living is Better than New York’s
Arizona’s cost of living index is currently at 102.2, making it slightly higher than the national average, but well below what you’re used to in New York with an index of 187.2. The cost of food and healthcare in the state are below the national average and well below what you would spend in New York. Housing costs, while above the U.S. average, are well below New York’s so you can still get more house for your money than what you are used to. Arizona is also considered one of the most tax-friendly states in the country.

Benefit from Arizona’s Robust Job Market
The job market in Arizona is steadily growing, with thriving industries including technology, education, aerospace, manufacturing, biotech, tourism, mining, and copper. Home to large corporate headquarters such as PetSmart, Circle K, U-Haul and Sprouts, Arizona offers ample job opportunities and has large numbers of major employers continuing to flock to the state.
Enjoy City Living
Arizona is home to 431 cities, ranging from chic metropolitan areas to small towns. Standout cities include Phoenix, known for its resorts, championship golf courses, and desert oases. Scottsdale is another high-profile city, with high-profile resorts, world-class shopping, active nightlife, and unique galleries and museums. Home to Arizona State University, Tempe is famous for its spirit, with art festivals, live music and bohemian shops. With its breathtaking desert backdrop and surrounding mountain ranges, Tucson offers a wide variety of activities for outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience the Culture of Arizona
Artists of all sorts flock to the Grand Canyon State for the beautiful natural inspiration and the thriving arts community, celebrated through some epic festivals. Tempe celebrates the end of the hot season with the Summer Ends Music Festival. Tucson offers the week-long La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros, a western-themed celebration with parades, bull riding, roping and barrel racing. Phoenix’s Festival of the Arts features over a hundred art vendors and cultural offerings. You can escape the heat any time at museums such as Phoenix Art Museum, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, or the Arizona Science Center.

Arizona is a Baseball Lovers’ Dream
Arizona is home to the Diamondbacks pro baseball team, and is also a part of the Cactus League for baseball spring training. Take a day to visit a training facility to watch some of the most popular teams in the country as they prepare for the season.
You’ll Love the Fantastic Food
Foodies, you will want to experiment with prickly pear cactus in your recipes. Grab a $7 permit from the Arizona State Land Department so you can harvest cactus, then go nuts! Restaurants use saguaro, cholla and agave in everything from omelets, tacos, and tortillas – there’s no limit to what you can try!
