Once you have arrived at your new home, the real work begins! Unpacking and trying to find a place to put everything so you can find things quickly can feel like an overwhelming task. Having a plan for how to tackle this task can help to make the job easier to handle, and you’ll be able to have your new home unpacked faster! Below are five tips to help make your unpacking easier!
  • Unpack the Bathroom First
The bathroom will be the first room in your home that you’ll want to have set up, as it will also be the first room you’ll need to use while you unpack. When packing your old home, you should have boxes clearly labeled “Bathroom” that contain some of the following items:
  • Hand soap
  • Towels
  • Toilet Paper
  • Shower curtain and hooks
  • Bath Mat
  • Toiletries
Have your professional movers, load these boxes onto the truck last, so they will be some of the first boxes off the truck. As soon as this box is off the truck and deposited in the bathroom, take a few minutes to hurry and unpack it while the rest of the items are being removed from the truck. This will allow anyone who needs the use of the bathroom to be able to do so in a fully stocked bathroom.
  • Unload Kitchen Boxes
Once you have completed unpacking the bathroom boxes, it is important to start tackling the kitchen next. Boxes that are labeled with kitchen supplies should be unpacked first, allowing for you to enjoy a glass of water amidst all of your hard work. Be sure to unpack the boxes that contain water pitchers, utensils, cookware, and dishes so that you can enjoy a home cooked meal in your new home. When deciding where to place items in your new kitchen, determine where the best place for cutlery and dishes can be stored to make it easier to access during meal preparation.
  • Make Your Beds
Before you are too exhausted from your move, find a few minutes to set up your beds. Make sure it is a priority to have the boxes with your pillows and bed linens to be unpacked first so that you will be able to get a good night’s sleep. Moving is an extremely stressful event, make sure that you don’t compound your stress with lack of sleep, due to having your bed linens packed away in a box that you can’t find.
  • Decide Where to Place Heavy Furniture
Before moving all of your possessions into your new home, decide where you want all of the heaviest pieces of furniture to be placed in each room. You can easily move small boxes and light pieces of furniture around, but it will be a lot harder to move big, heavy furniture. Know where you want everything to be placed, so that when they come off the moving truck, they can be placed in their permanent locations.
  • Hang Up Clothes and Fabric Items
If you are moving your draperies with you, be sure to hang them up as quickly as possible to avoid deep-setting wrinkles. You’ll also want to hang up your clothes as soon as you can to prevent the need for having to steam or iron everything you own. It is recommended to pack your clothes while still on the hanger to make unpacking and hanging them up a quick and easy task to complete.
